Today is the Reason We Live in Morro Bay

Today is the reason we live in Morro Bay: 75 degrees, warm offshore breezes.

Truman helped with the race committee at the Yacht club for the day-sailor race today. We are happy to announce that we are officially yacht club members.  I know I will have yacht club responsibilities at some point, but today was too beautiful and I was very selfish.  I went running on the beach.  Then I cruised down to the local coffee shop to meet a friend a'la photo-tour of the sunny day.

Right before sunset, Truman and I rode over to a new wine bar called STAX.  I would highly recommend it!  The day was so picturesque and I wish that sunset wasn't so early.  We both rode our bicycles all day!

July Gloom

We drove inland this morning for errands and work stuff.  We drove 30 miles from the beach, due East.  It was 97 degrees!  97' F.

At approximately 13:00, we drove back to the ocean front.  It was a gloomy 62' F!  Over a 30 degree difference!  JULY GLOOM!  Arrrgh!  Socked in.

If there is one thing that we've had to make peace with it is this.  Living by the beach means living through May Gray, or June Gloom, or July, or whatever.  I've written about this in past posts with respect to the Vitamin D deficiency and lack of sunlight.  It is no joke, but I think I've made my peace with it.  I think. . . .

The Marina Sounds Like a Casino!

We were in Santa Barbara a couple weeks ago.  Love it.  Love it.  The wind was blowing and slapping the halyards against the masts.  It was a very jingly, jangly sound.  The ocean race was in full swing and every so often a horn would go off.  The steel drum band was playing on the deck of the Yacht Club!  Sea birds were squaking.  Waves were crashing.  Flags were wipping.  Kinda reminded me of the gaming floor in a Vegas Casino.

Listen: The Marina "slapping halyards" sounds vs. Casino Gambling Sounds.
Readers, I hope these sound bite links work, because they are pretty cool!

Angela Lansbury, Eat Your Heart Out!

After 5 straight days of howling wind, thunder, lightening, torrential downpours, and power outages, I decided to bike down to the docks on this fine Saturday morning to inspect the damage. There were pictures of moored boats at Port San Luis, Avila Beach, being blown onto the rocks. I hope our little harbor is safer!

The Captain is out of town, so I am enjoying doing exactly what I want to do! Ha! I made myself a celery, apple, grapefruit juice, got on my pink beach-cruiser and headed out into the glorious sunlight!

Leaving the house, the Morro Rock and sea spray are shiny in the sun!

Everything looks calm. There are no boats washed up on the sandspit. That is a good sign!

It is just a little flooding. No sweat, right?

What a relief! All is well in the dock!

On my way back home, I stopped at Top Dog Coffee Shop and read a little of Middlemarch. George Eliot can capture the provincial life with spectacular clarity!

"But she hesitated to beg that he would keep entire silence on a subject which she had herself unnecessarily mentioned, not being used to stoop in that way; and while she was hesitating there was already a rush of unintended consequences under the apple-tree where the tea-things stood."

"She was unpleasantly conscious that she had been on the verge of speaking as 'one of the foolish women speaketh'--telling first and entreating silence after." page 707

Ahhhh, the provincial life!!!! Morro Road, Lazy Saturday morning.
The first day of sun in 5 days!
Have a great day, friend!
